2 Chronicles 19:1-3 -
Then Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned safely to his house in Jerusalem. And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Therefore the wrath of the LORD is upon you. Nevertheless good things are found in you, in that you have removed the wooden images from the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.”
Although Jehoshaphat had "prepared [his] heart to seek God," the wrath of the Lord was upon him because he helped the wicked and loved those who hate the Lord speaking of Ahab, king of Israel (2 Chr 18), and Ahaziah, king of Israel (2 Chr 20:35).
It is foolish for us to think we can fellowship with the wicked and the Lord at the same time. This was just very sobering for me. We are called to be in the world to be a light and a witness, but we are to tread lightly, to not be of the world. The question is, "have I allied myself with the wicked or those that hate the Lord?" Is it worth the wrath of God coming upon me?
